WOOD FLOORING EXPLAINED
SOLID WOOD
Solid wood is made from a single piece of natural wood. It can be oak, maple, ash or any other number of tree species. The main benefit of a solid wood floor is that it can be sanded and refinished multiple times over the course of the lifetime of the floor. Our unique range of solid wood floors are suitable for use with underfloor heating.
ENGINEERED WOOD
Engineered wood is made from natural wood, but rather than being a single piece of wood it's made by joining layers of material together. It is usually made up of two or three layers. The surface layer is typically made from hardwood with base layers commonly made from pine, spruce and douglas fir. Engineered wood can be sanded and refinished like a solid floor. Our collection of engineered wood flooring is suitable for underfloor heating.
SOLID ENGINEERED WOOD
This is a variant of engineered wood flooring. Rather than having hardwood on the surface and layers of softwood below, solid engineered wood is comprised of three layers of the surface material, most commonly oak. This clever manufacturing process creates an extremely durable and stable product. Solid engineered wood floors can typically be sanded and refinished the same number of times as a solid wood floor. Our selection of engineered wood flooring is also suitable for underfloor heating.
LAMINATES
Laminate flooring is also comprised of several layers. Laminates have a highly resistant, transparent wear layer on the surface with a design layer below which creates the pattern of the floor (grain, colour) and a base layer of fibreboard. The quality of fibreboard can vary with different manufacturers. Our laminate collections are all made from superior quality HDF (High Density Fibreboard) and are free from harmful VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds).
LUXURY VINYL TILES - LVTs
Designed to emulate wood, natural stone and textured fabric, luxury vinyl tiles offer maximum durability and a long life.
Resistant to water, abrasion, staining, scuffs and scratches as well as chemical agents. LVTs are are ideal for high traffic areas such as hallways and kitchens. Quick to install and easy to maintain, making them perfect for busy households with children or pets. Textured fabric LVTs are also perfect for adding a touch of luxury to walls.
